Kia ora and thank you for visiting!

I have loved drawing since I was a child and my interest in art resulted in three years of study in Visual Communication, with a focus on illustration, at Christchurch Polytechnic. I began to sell small New Zealand landscapes and other figurative paintings around 20 years ago. I now work full time in a retail job where I spend time with an amazing array of New Zealand art, and paint as much as possible in my spare time.

While my earlier artwork was heavily influenced by Aotearoa’s tree-laden, wildly beautiful landscapes and breathtakingly clear starlit night skies, it has now evolved to also include imaginative elements. My paintings are expressions of my love for creatures, both the amazing animals that we share this planet with, and spirit beings of the natural world. While bold, wild and fierce, nature is also permeated with joy, and even a sense of mischief. Brimming with colour and life, it’s a never ending source of wonder and mystery. I hope to evoke something of this wonder in my paintings, and to help to remind others of their own sense of magic in the natural world.

One thing that I love about art is that different meanings can emerge from a piece over time, subject to changes in environments and viewers. I aim to create paintings that embody this potential, and that people can find personal stories and resonance in.

I have sold work through galleries and shops in Wanaka, Hawkes Bay, Wellington, Taupo and Palmerston North. I’ve enjoyed being part of group exhibitions at the Matchbox, Vincents and Green Street Galleries in Wellington and feel very lucky that my prints and paintings have found homes in the USA, Germany, Australia, Scotland, England, France and Canada.

I hope to soon have a selection of small originals and prints available on my Etsy store.
